Treatments What happens in a treatment ? What Happens During A Treatment ? A treatment will take around one hour, shorter treatments can be done on specific problem areas. The receiver should be in a lying or sitting position, (preferably on a massage table) The practitioner will stand or sit next to them. Reiki can be given in any place and at any time but where possible the temperature is comfortably warm and the atmosphere will be calm and peaceful. Candles and music can sometimes assist the treatment. The receiver will be asked to close their eyes and to take a few deep breaths. After a few moments the practitioner will place their hands on the receiver. Usually starting on the Head and working down the front of the body. Each hand position will last for 2 - 3 minutes. More if required. A full body treatment consists of between 15 and 20 hand positions on both the front and back of the body. Starting at the head and finishing with the feet. A final position on the head will complete and seal the treatment. The receivers body will automatically draw in only as much Reiki as is needed, using it in whatever way is most appropriate at the time. Reiki may be felt as a flow of energy, mild tingling, warmth, coolness, other sensations, or nothing at all. Reiki is deeply relaxing, eases stress, and has a calming effect. It is not uncommon for the receiver and the Reiki practitioner to experience different sensations. For example the receiver may experience cold at the position of the practitioner's hands whilst the practitioner may feel intense heat. At the end of the session, It is beneficial for the receiver to rest for a while and drink plenty of water. This will enhance the treatment and help the body to detox. Be responsive to the needs of your body, e.g. resting if tired, and allow the energy to continue its work after the session ends. The beneficial effects may be felt for several days. Sometimes the receiver may experience nothing physically and may think that Reiki is not working. Reiki energy often works at a very subtle level and may have profound results which become apparent in the following days or weeks. The energy will travel to wherever it is needed the most and works at all levels - physical, mental/emotional and spiritual. Be aware of the sensations of energy you can feel. These sensations can be very subtle but with practice you will find that they are undeniable. Always remember that the practitioner is just a channel for the Reiki energy. The receiver is drawing the Reiki through the practitioner and they will draw through only that which they require and because Reiki energy has its own intelligence they can never "over-dose" or take too much. Safety Reiki should only be considered as an addition to professional
medical treatment and NOT as an alternative. A GP should be consulted
in all matters relating to health and especially in relation to any symptoms
which may require diagnosis or medical attention. How often should I have treatments ? The course of treatment will depend on what the Reiki is being used to treat, and the preferences of the receiver. A treatment plan will be discussed once an initial treatment has been completed. Treatments can be weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on the individual needs of the receiver. The Chakras
